PLAYSTYLE AND SCHEME FIT
Young is best suited for an offense that emphasizes a quick passing game that quickly gets the ball out of his hands. He is excellent at reading defenses and making quick decisions, making him a good fit for a West Coast-style offense focusing on short to intermediate passes. Additionally, he has shown the ability to make plays with his legs and can be a threat in the read-option game, which could make him a good fit for a run-pass option (RPO) heavy offense.
PASS GAME ANALYSIS
Bryce Young displays elite-level traits as a passer. Young shows excellent poise and mobility in the pocket, where he can slide away from pressure and move through his progressions, keeping his head up and eyes down the field, looking to make a throw. Young is accurate at all levels but excels at the short and intermediate levels. He can hit the out route with great anticipation and has the arm strength to hit the intermediate out breaking route from the far hash. Young does a good job with throws down the middle of the field and can layer tight window throws between the second and third-level defenders. When young has time, he can work the pocket while going through his progressions. Young possesses good, not elite-level arm strength, which is more than adequate and not a significant concern, but at the NFL level, Young will find out that late throws with an average arm can become a pick-six in a hurry.
RUN GAME ANALYSIS
As a Runner, Bryce Young does well-extending plays with his legs where he buys time to make a throw. He also recognizes coverage and does a great job not forcing a throw that is not available before leaning on his athleticism to pick up first downs as a runner in critical moments to extend a drive. His size will be a concern at 194 lbs at the NFL level.
FINAL REPORT
Bryce Young is a talented quarterback with excellent accuracy, athleticism, and arm talent. He has shown good poise and decision-making skills as a starter at Alabama. While his size may be a concern, his mobility and arm talent make him an intriguing prospect. If he can continue to develop his game, he can develop into a high-end starter at the NFL level. He is a projected top 5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
