PLAYSTYLE AND SCHEME FIT
Gibbs would be an excellent fit for an offense that emphasizes zone blocking and outside-zone runs. His patience and vision would allow him to read blocks and find running lanes, while his burst and acceleration would make him a dangerous runner on outside runs. He would also be a great fit for an offense that utilizes running backs in the passing game.
PASS GAME ANALYSIS
In the passing game, Gibbs is as versatile as it gets at the collegiate level, and that is the part of his game that NFL scouts are drooling over. He has excellent hands combined with the fluidity of a receiver in his routes. He can line up outside and in the slot and provides a chess piece functionality that can dictate how a defense deploys its personnel. He will need to improve his pass pro at the next level.
RUN GAME ANALYSIS
At 5-11 200lbs, Jahmyr Gibbs is an elusive three-down back who can play in both a zone or gap scheme. As a runner, Gibbs shows an elite burst. He can easily exploit an opening and enter a defense's second and third levels, where defenders have difficulty reeling him in. Gibbs possesses elite balance and good speed, which is why you rarely see him taken down on first contact. Gibbs is a fluid player; he can make you miss in a tight space while possessing deceptive power he can deploy vs. a flat-footed defender. He can be deployed in both zone and gap schemes.
FINAL REPORT
Gibbs provides the Crimson Tide with a different type of back than they have trotted out in recent history. At 5-11 200lbs, Gibbs is not a player the Tide should depend on to bang out tough yards between the tackles. If Gibbs is deployed correctly, he is a versatile chess piece with big-play ability. He can make defenders miss with very little daylight and is explosive off the block. Once he enters the second level of the defense, good luck.
