PLAYSTYLE AND SCHEME FIT

Simpson is a highly athletic and versatile linebacker who can be used in a variety of schemes. He has the speed and agility to play in a 4-3 defense and the versatility to play in a 3-4 defense. He's a solid tackler and can be used to set the edge against the run. His coverage skills make him a valuable asset in passing situations, and he can be used to drop back in coverage or rush the passer.

PASS GAME ANALYSIS

Trenton Simpson is a long, athletic weakside LB with elite positional versatility. At Clemson, Simpson would be asked to line up on the edge of the defense to pass rush on one play and then play a safety role on the next. He is a positionless chess piece on defense. Simpson has the speed and athleticism to match up against athletic TE's in pass coverage while also being a good run defender.

RUN GAME ANALYSIS

In the run game, Simpson is excellent from sideline to sideline. There are concerns with his ability to wade through congested downhill traffic, but he has shown he can fight through the trash and make a play. He can still work on his strength and technique in traffic at the next level. There are moments he gets caught out of position by being too aggressive vs. downhill runs.

FINAL REPORT

Simpson is a highly athletic and explosive linebacker with excellent speed, agility, and quickness. He has a quick first step and can change direction quickly to pursue ball carriers all over the field. Simpson is a solid tackler who uses his athleticism and strength to bring down ball carriers. He has good technique and can deliver big hits when he needs to. Simpson is a versatile linebacker who can play both inside and outside positions. He has good coverage skills and can drop back in coverage or rush the passer, depending on the situation.
