PLAYER EVALUATION

The son of a former NFL player, Surtain has the pedigree. He is a long-player who plays with discipline. Surtain excels in man to man but can play zone when needed. He is not a speedy player, but he masks his lack of long speed by playing with great technique. He does an excellent job at challenging receivers at the line of scrimmage—Surtain projects as the top CB prospect in the 2021 NFL draft.

TEAM ANALYSIS

Other Considerations If Available:

Virginia Tech CB Caleb Farley or Alabama CB Patrick Surtain or Florida TE Kyle Pitts Trade Back

The Cowboys need a little bit of everything, but their most significant opportunity will be on defense. They need to improve their defensive line's interior, and they need to upgrade their secondary especially at safety. Our original mock back in January had them going for help at CB, but after further analysis, we realize that they need more help up front where they were awful at stopping the run. They could also use help on the offensive line, a unit once regarded as the best in the league that has become one of the more fragile lines in the NFL. The need to protect their best asset in QB Dak Prescott, so by drafting the best available tackle, especially one who can flip to guard when needed, might their best opportunity with a top ten pick. They also need secondary help.
