PLAYSTYLE & SCHEME FIT
Malachi Fields enters the 2025 season as one of the most physically imposing wide receivers in college football. After producing back-to-back 800+ yard seasons at Virginia despite subpar quarterback play, Fields transferred to Notre Dame, where he’ll serve as a boundary alpha in Mike Denbrock’s offense. At 6'4", 225 pounds, he brings a prototype X-receiver frame, a massive catch radius, and proven contested catch ability—23 contested grabs since 2023 (T-15th in FBS). Fields thrives on intermediate and vertical routes, using his size and body control to box out defenders. While he lacks elite twitch and separation quickness, he profiles as a reliable possession target and red-zone weapon in pro-style or West Coast offenses. NFL teams looking for a physical outside receiver with Day 2 value will be tracking his development closely in 2025.
CEILING GRADE ANALYSIS
Mid-Level Starter Potential (60-64)
A solid, dependable starter with the potential to exceed expectations. They have good athleticism and tools but may lack elite traits. While they show flashes of high-level play, they also have some notable weaknesses that must be developed. These players often need 2-3 years to establish themselves.
