2018 NFC South Champ: Saints

Overview

After the Saints won the NFC Title, oh wait, got jobbed by a missed PI call on a drive that would have put the game out of reach for the LA Rams. If there was a moment one might believe that something had been rigged (for the sake of LA), this was that moment.

The Saints won their division in 2018 led by their strong offensive line (20% spend, 2nd in OL Performance) led by Terron Armstead (LT) who is the 2nd ranked OT in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. On the other side of the line, the Saints have the number 8 ranked tackle (Ryan Ramczyk) who they drafted in the first round in 2017 from Wisconsin. The good news for the Saints in 2019 is that they return both tackles, their 31st ranked guard Larry Warford (according to Pro Football Focus). The time is right now for the Saints to capitalize; they are loaded on the offensive side of the football.

The NFC South averages 16% in total OL spending against the cap and boasts a raw OL performance stats ranking of 12 (2nd to only the AFC North average of 9th) giving the appearance that the NFC South was the toughest division in the NFL in 2018. If you take into account the raw stats offensive line rankings, the fact that every team in the division has a QB with extensive experience including multiple Pro Bowl appearances and a solidified RB except for Tampa Bay.
