2019 Michigan Offense Through WK2 Compared to Michigan Offense 2018

The Michigan offense has not been efficient to begin in 2019. When comparing the 2019 Michigan offensive averages to their entire 2018 season, Michigan has regressed in total yards per play, and their BPO (Big Play Opportunities) has regressed significantly in all areas except 4th down where they capitalized with a fake punt vs. Army a week ago.

Michigan has turned over the football five times in two games, with a total of 7 fumbles. In 2018 they lost a total of 3 fumbles the entire season.

Michigan will need to show significant improvement if they are going to have success on the road in Madison Wisconsin next Saturday. They will need to protect the football and the QB. Shea Patterson has been sacked 6 times in two weeks, and after an offseason of hype surrounding the offensive line, they have been average at best to begin 2019.

Army is a top 25 caliber opponent, and Michigan got all they could handle and then some in OT before the defense was able to finish the game. The bye week came at the right time for Michigan to work on their issues, and if they can continue to work in their RPO game as they did against Middle Tennessee against the Wisconsin LB's and Safeties they should be able to find success in Madison.
