Trotter is an explosive downhill linebacker with very good run instincts, outstanding trigger ability, and physical pop at contact. He diagnoses blocking schemes quickly and beats linemen to landmarks with urgency. His tackling reliability and heavy hands make him a tone-setter inside the box. However, hip stiffness, limited change-of-direction ability, and below-average zone awareness currently restrict his three-down profile. He projects best as a MIKE or strong-side interior linebacker in odd fronts, where he can attack downhill and play through traffic rather than carry vertical routes in space.
