CFB 365 Fall Preview: Premium Stats Measures Offensive Efficiency in The Trenches

Premium Stats Measures (Offensive Efficiency in The Trenches)

Key Pass Stats Offense:

Measuring the offensive line efficiency can be tricky, but there are a few ways to gain perspective on offensive line strengths and weaknesses.

In this analysis we look at the total number of passes attempted per every sack that is given up by the offense.

The top BGA (drop back's to sack) offensive team from the 2017 season is Mississsippi State who return four of five starters from their 2017 offensive line.

The number two team from 2017 is West Virginia who also returns 4 starters from the 2017 campaign. They also return their starting QB Wil Grier who is projected by many to be an All American in 2018.

The team that I expect to see the most improvement from in 2018 is Florida who is dead last, but are returning five offensive line starters from 2017.

Key Rush Stats Offense:

This analysis identifies the rate at which a team absorbs a tackle for a loss. We use the total number of attempted plays and divide that by the total tackles for loss given up.

It appears that Joe Moorehead is inheriting a good situation on the offensive line at Mississippi State in 2018. As discussed above in the passing analysis, the Bulldogs return 4 of five starters from the 2017 offensive line.

The number two team is no surprise, the Ohio State Buckeyes who have two returning offensive lineman returning from the 2017 season, but Ohio State return's the top tandem of RB's in the Big Ten if not the nation with (JK Dobbins and Mike Weber) who both could churn out 1000 yds a piece if they stay healthy.
